Ordering through Farmaround Organics couldn’t be easier and is done via their website. Once you are on their website, you are greeted by their motto “Delivered by hand straight from the land.” The website is clearly layed out and easy to navigate. All their produce is available under their “shop” tab, which extends to the following:
The deliveries of my fruits and vegetable bags were straight forward. They cannot give you a slot unfortunately, but deliveries start from around 9am and can continue until 8.30pm. My fruit and vegetable bags came before 12PM, which was helpful. To avoid missing your delivery, you can leave the driver instructions to place your order in a safe place such as with a neighbour, in your porch or in your garden. If you have not given them instructions, the driver will leave it in the most sensible place he can find and put a note through your door as to its whereabouts.
But the great thing about ordering weekly is that once your driver has allocated your position in his or her round, it will be at a similar time each week. They deliver throughout the year except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. During weeks with a Bank Holiday Monday deliveries take place one day later than usual.
Contents of Bag
I was sent a standard fruit bag and a standard vegetable bag. I was pleasantly impressed initially by the absence of plastic packaging in the bags. Not only did I get all the lovely fruit and vegetables that I was expecting, but I also got a warm letter welcoming me, recipes and a story too. I was also impressed by the packaging, it was strong, durable and recyclable.
NB: The content of bags will vary according to each season.
Standard Fruit bag contents: Oranges, bananas, kiwis, pears, a pomegranate and apples.
Standard Vegetable bag contents: Peppers, garlic, carrots, sweet potato, cauliflower, leeks and onions.
I got these bags last week and already, I have eaten most of the fruit by taking it to lunch, sharing it with my family, using it in smoothies and the vegetables are starring in many of my savoury recipes such as stews and curries.
Unsurprisingly the produce is of a high quality and much better than its supermarket equivalents. It was a nice surprise to cut open the oranges to find a deep crimson colour and discover they were blood oranges. The bananas were fair-trade and organic and had wraps on their necks to keep them from ripening quickly. Everything was full of taste and also lasted long. The only thing that disappointed me was the quality of the pomegranate – but then it is the end of the pomegranate season (October- February)..so that is to be expected!
